Former Independence mayor and WWII veteran Marion Schadler dies; visitation is tonight
Apr 19, 2018Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood.Mr. Schadler was a former Mayor for the City of Independence, where he served for 16 years from 1973-1989.He was also a retired terminal operator for Ashland Oil (for over 34 years), a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Independence. Mr. Schadler stayed active in his later years by gardening, refinishing furniture and holding yard sales.His wife (for over 60 years), Rosella Schadler and brothers, Earl and George preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons, David Schadler (Peggy) and Don Schadler (Darlene); brother, Eugene Schadler; grandchildren, John Brad Schadler, Lesli Lightner (Eric), Aric Schadler (Joy), Ben Schadler (Elizabeth), and Zachary Schadler (Jackie); great grandchildren, Hanna Schadler, Josiah Schadler, Elija Schadler, Katheryn Roselle Lightner, Jacob Lightner & Cora Schadler.Visitation will be Monday, April 2 (today), 2018, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. His funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.Interment will be at Independence Cemetery.
